The Physician Behind the Practice

Dr. Andrew Hummel

Dr. Andrew Hummel, MD is a board-certified anesthesiologist who has spent over a decade at the intersection of clinical excellence and patient advocacy. His journey in medicine began at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, where he earned his combined BA/MD degree through an accelerated six-year program. He then completed his anesthesiology residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, where his peers and faculty recognized his leadership potential by electing him Administrative Chief Resident—a role that sharpened his ability to balance high-stakes clinical decision-making with the operational demands of a busy academic department.

Dr. Hummel’s career has been defined by versatility and depth. As Medical Director of Anesthesiology at Citizens Memorial Hospital for nearly ten years, he built and led a department that delivered safe, efficient care across general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, and urology. He championed patient safety initiatives, refined clinical protocols, and mentored providers at every level of training.

His clinical repertoire spans the full spectrum of perioperative care: regional and neuraxial anesthesia, total joint replacements, complex spinal and epidural blocks, cardiac stents and ablations, sports medicine procedures, OB anesthesia, and chronic pain management. He has also applied his expertise in emerging and specialized settings, including the Chronic COVID Treatment Center, where he helped develop protocols for patients with post-acute sequelae of COVID-19.

Today, Dr. Hummel continues to practice across multiple domains. Through Royal Medical Center, he provides hormone replacement therapy and medical optimization services to patients nationwide. And as a mock oral board examiner for JustOralBoards.com, he draws on his extensive clinical experience to prepare the next generation of anesthesiologists for ABA certification—walking residents and fellows through complex scenarios, edge cases, and the nuanced clinical reasoning that defines expert practice.

He holds board certification from the American Board of Anesthesiology and maintains active membership in the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the New York Society of Anesthesiologists, and the American Association of Medical Colleges
